Official Launch of the Axiata Cup 2013 in Kuala Lumpur










Here are the official overall standings of the teams in the Axiata Cup 2013:

1. Indonesia - 22 points
2. Malaysia - 21 points
3. Thailand - 21 points
4. Asia - 16 points
5. Europe - 14 points
6. Singapore - 11 points
7. Vietnam - 5 points
8. Philippines - 2 points


Only the top 4 teams will advance to the semi-finals. As such here is the line up for the semi-finals on the 14th April in Kuala Lumpur

SF1: Malaysia vs TBC (14:00 KL)
SF2: Indonesia vs TBC (19:30KL)

The 3rd and 4th team will be drawn for their semi-finals spot to determine whether they face either Malaysia or Indonesia on the 12th April in Kuala Lumpur!

Time for redemption

The Axiata Cup is the perfect place for Malaysia’s top shuttlers to start their road to redemption.

Former world No. 1 in the men’s doubles Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong and world No. 3 mixed pair Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying are slowly getting back to their best and will look to turn on the style in the richest mixed team badminton event. Although it has been three years since they last won a Superseries title, Kien Keat and Boon Heong have consistently qualified for the semi-finals and finals of the major tournaments and this tournament is the perfect platform for them to showcase their talents.

Liu Ying, who has just recovered from an ankle injury, is also determined to put up a strong performance. Liew Daren, the only other Malaysian apart from Datuk Lee Chong Wei to win a Superseries tournament, will lead the men’s singles charge with Chong Wei Feng. Tee Jing Yi will play in the mixed singles while Lim Yin Loo is the back-up for the mixed doubles.

After failing to reach the final of the inaugural tournament, the Malaysian Tigers will be ready to roar loudly in this year’s Axiata Cup.

Malaysia’s Chong Wei Feng finally had a first win over his long-time nemesis of 6 years, Ashton Chen of Singapore in the second leg of the Tournament on March 29th, 2013.

Yeah..she is the best woman single player after beat Tai Tzu Ying ranked #9 in the world. LOL...You are true. she is our new badminton queen..hehe

He lost to Lee Hyun Il in the second match. Still, Daren is staying positive on his match. Never give up rite?!

“There’s no doubt that I’m playing rather poorly but it’s probably due to the hectic playing and travelling schedule ... I’ve hardly had any rest,” said Daren.

I think they will make this Axiata Cup for the next year tournament. This is the second game after last year..so lets win the prices again next year!! hehehe
